An Engine Management System may be considered more than just a fuel injection system.

An Engine Management System controls the engine, of course.  But it often also controls items like the tacho, the thermofans, the fuel pump, maybe even the climate control, shift lights, your automatic transmission, and a range of other functions that can be controlled.

This means an Engine Management System has a much more flexible range of auxiliary inputs and outputs, as well as powerful software functionality that allows for this wide range of flexibility.

Follow this link for more information on Electronic Fuel Injection Systems.

If you are after more for your vehicle, than just a computer to control your engine (fuel and spark), and you have a more demanding and complete application in mind, take some time to research the main differences between the various Electronic Fuel Injection Systems and the various Engine Management Systems.

You will not be disappointed if you install a system that allows flexibility and expandability in the future, but you might end up a little frustrated if your project becomes limited by the control system you fit to your vehicle.
